A breather is only used to relieve crankcase pressure/blow by to keep the rings from rattling at high rpm's. Each valve cover has a breather and the valve cover have baffles. Of course it did not blow oil while they had it. Is there anything I can do to keep the oil from blowing out? I thought about running a long breather tube maybe 3-4' long of of the valve covers and behind the engine to either 1) give more length to allow the oil to not reach the end or 2) allowing it to blow out under the car rather than in my face and all over the exhaust. I have my boost all the way down (17psi) and my timing backed off to non alky timing (for now) and I'm blowing oil out of both valve cover breathers. Now I've had people tell me it could be head gasket, warped/cracked head, PCV valve and a list of other problems it could be. When you get it apart you might even notice that the gasket is drawn inward, not "blown" out. Could be plugged. The valve covers are not baffled! (Tried new PCV, no help)! My question is: Can I run two pcv valves instaed of a breather cap? One will be in each valve cover. The rest of the blow-by (the majority of it, actually) will escape up the turbo oil drain line and force the oil out of the seals. What valve cover is used does not matter, so long as there is a way to mount a PCV valve to the valve cover. I then put a one-way valve in each breather pipe and it worked superbly. working on my own 1990 mitsubishi fuso diesel. ventilated and sealed so as to not blow oil and vapor all over our engine compartment. The pressure doesn't seem to be effected. And it's not blowing out the counter shaft seal ether. There is just a small puddle or oil spot on the garage floor after usage and you can follow the trail directly to the breather. so i put a new pcv valve on the pass side and ran it to the back of the the carb, no more oil leaks, but steam coming out the front drivers side valve cover opening. Herein lies the reason and function of the valve cover breathers. MG TD TF 1500 - Valve cover breather tube I have a nicely restored 1953 MG TD (photo attached). A breather atop each valve cover is usually all that's needed. Air is flowing from the valve cover to the intake. I know most of you are thinking it's over filled but it's not, it's got 1. Of course it did not blow oil while they had it. My first guess is replace the pcv. I raced this SAME car on dirt and never had this problem before. I am assuming that the oil is blowing out of your top breather bolts. Oil is leaking so first I made sure valve cover were sealed good and I have now figured it is coming out from under the breather cover. side but a decent amount on the driver's side. Every bolt was loose, one almost came out and two bolts are missing.
